About Us

Herp-Cameroon recognizes that conservation efforts can only be successful if they are inclusive and involve local communities. To achieve its goals of conserving herpetofauna, the organization works in close collaboration with local communities in Cameroon. This involves engaging with community leaders, conducting outreach and educational programs, and involving community members in research and monitoring activities.

Through their outreach programs, Herp-Cameroon educates communities on the importance of herpetofauna in maintaining healthy ecosystems, and the role they can play in conservation efforts. They also involve community members in their research activities, providing training and opportunities for individuals to participate in field surveys and monitoring.

In addition, Herp-Cameroon works with local communities to develop sustainable livelihoods that are compatible with the conservation of herpetofauna. This may involve promoting sustainable agriculture practices, developing ecotourism initiatives, or supporting alternative livelihoods that do not involve the destruction of habitats.

Overall, the collaborative approach of Herp-Cameroon is key to the success of their conservation efforts. By involving local communities in their work, they are able to build partnerships that are based on shared values and goals. This approach not only benefits herpetofauna conservation but also contributes to the well-being of local communities and the sustainability of their livelihoods.

Our Story

Herp-Cameroon is dedicated to the study and conservation of herpetofauna in Cameroon, a country known for its high biodiversity of amphibians and reptiles. The organization conducts research and monitoring programs to assess the status and habitat of various herpetofauna species in different regions of the country. By using a range of survey methods, including visual encounter surveys and acoustic monitoring, Herp-Cameroon is able to gather valuable data on species richness, abundance, and distribution. This information is crucial for identifying areas of high conservation value and informing habitat management and restoration efforts. In addition to their research, Herp-Cameroon also conducts educational outreach programs and collaborates with local communities to promote the conservation of herpetofauna and their habitats. Their work is an important contribution to the broader effort to protect and conserve the rich biodiversity of Cameroon.

Our Partners

Collaboration is a crucial component of our efforts to achieve our conservation goals at Herp-Cameroon. We recognize that working in partnership with other organizations and stakeholders can help us to leverage resources, share expertise, and achieve greater impact in our efforts to conserve herpetofauna and their habitats.
One of our key collaborators is Herp-Ghana, a non-profit organization that shares our commitment to the conservation of herpetofauna and the environment. Together, we work to build local capacity for herpetological research and conservation, raise awareness about the importance of these species, and develop sustainable management strategies for herpetofauna and their habitats.

We also collaborate closely with Edge of Existence, a global conservation program that supports the conservation of threatened species and their habitats. Through our partnership with Edge of Existence, we receive technical support, guidance, and funding to implement our conservation activities and benefit from the program’s global network of experts and stakeholders.

Synchronicity Earth is another important partner in our conservation efforts. As a non-profit organization that supports conservation initiatives around the world, Synchronicity Earth provides us with funding and technical support for our conservation activities, as well as opportunities to collaborate with other organizations and share best practices.
By working in collaboration with these and other partners, we are able to amplify our impact, leverage resources, and develop more effective conservation strategies for herpetofauna and their habitats. We believe that collaboration is essential for achieving our conservation goals, and we are committed to continuing to work closely with other organizations and stakeholders to ensure the long-term survival of these important species.
